So let's talk about my latest project--and by latest, I mean it's 12:34am and the project is drying on the ironing board. I belong to a wonderful online group, Crochet Partners, which took up residence over on Yahoo! a couple of years ago. (It may be more than a couple, just look at the title of this post.) Years back, I took part in the bookmark exchange, quit, and recently started in again. I figured I could at least manage to complete a tiny project--not just start, but finish. Plus, since it's small, you can experiment with all sorts of different concepts without overwhelming yourself. Actually, I'm just an ego-maniac who tried to make the most stunning piece I could--and then moan about the "inferior" pieces that I got in exchange. Yes, I admit it. I am a crochet snob. I beg your forgiveness. It really is beastly of me.
Where was I? Oh yes, the bookmark exchange. A quick apology for my horrible photography skills... Really.
Here is the bookmark I made with the help of one of the great crochet magazines--Duplet. Sure, it's in Russian, and they don't give you patterns so much as schematics for elements, but oh what amazing elements they are. Keeping in mind that I don't read Russian, but love crochet symbols, I made the large flower motif for the top. I repeated the center of the motif for the end of the stem. The vine-looking stem was a separate element from the same issue. All in all, I'd say it turned out really well.
Tomorrow (later today, rather) this bookmark will be flying off to
